This annual report highlights the critical contribution of the UNFPA-led Campaign to End Fistula in 2015 with resulted in the facilitation of more than 13,000 fistula surgeries and the training of more than 900 fistula survivors in income-generating activities. The Campaign to End Fistula is part of the work of UNFPA’s Maternal Health Thematic Fund (MHTF) to more broadly strengthen health systems to deliver quality maternal health services.

Médecins Sans Frontières, member of the Campaign to End Fistula, set up the Gitega Fistula Centre within the Regional Hospital of Gitega, Burundi, in 2009 to provide high quality, multi-disciplinary care, free of charge, all year round. This report aims to reflect on the experience of setting-up, running and handing over such a fistula project.
